Organize PDF

Put PDF pages in a new order, or reverse them.

If the pages of your document came out in the wrong order, you can reorder PDF pages here by typing the order you want them in. The same tool can flip the whole document so the last page comes first, which fixes a scan that went through the feeder backwards. Organize PDF is free, runs in your browser, and needs no account.

Two ways to organize a PDF

The "Order" setting has two choices.

Custom order lets you type the new sequence of pages, separated by commas. Ranges work too. If your PDF has six pages and you type 3, 1, 2, 4-6, the new file starts with page 3, then pages 1 and 2, then pages 4 to 6 as before.

Reverse all pages turns the document back to front. A 10-page PDF comes out as page 10, 9, 8 and so on down to page 1. You don't need to type anything for this one.

How to reorder PDF pages

  1. Open the PDF in a reader and work out the order you want. Writing it down helps with long documents.
  2. Upload the file. Drag it onto the box on a computer, or tap "Select files" on a phone. One PDF at a time, up to 100 MB.
  3. Under "Order", pick "Custom order" and type your sequence, or pick "Reverse all pages".
  4. Start the tool.
  5. Download the reorganized PDF. It comes back as a single file.

Leaving out and repeating pages

Two rules about custom order are worth knowing, because they let you do a few jobs at once.

Pages you leave out of your list are dropped from the new file. So if you type 1, 2, 4, page 3 won't be in the result. That means you can rearrange PDF pages and delete unwanted ones in one step.

A page can also be repeated. Typing 1, 2, 1 gives you a three-page PDF where the first page appears again at the end. People use this to put a cover page or an instruction sheet in two places, or to make a second copy of a form page.

You type (6-page PDF) Result
2, 1, 3-6 Pages 1 and 2 swapped, the rest unchanged
6, 1-5 Last page moved to the front
1-3, 5-6 Page 4 removed
1, 2, 3, 3, 4-6 Page 3 appears twice

Because left-out pages disappear, be careful with long documents. If you have a 40-page PDF and want to move only page 40 to the front, type 40, 1-39. Typing just 40, 1 would leave you with a two-page file.

When people need it

Scans in the wrong order

Loading a stack into a scanner the wrong way round, or scanning a pile of papers that got dropped, often gives you a jumbled PDF. If the whole thing is backwards, "Reverse all pages" fixes it in one go. If only a few pages are out of place, type the correct order.

Putting the right page first

Application forms, reports and assignments often need a particular page on top: a cover sheet, a summary, a signed declaration. Moving it to the front only means typing its number first in the custom order box, followed by the rest of the pages.

Combining documents and then tidying them

After you join several files with Merge PDF, you may find a page you'd like in a different place. Organize the merged file here instead of starting the merge again. This also helps when files from different people need to be mixed together, such as putting each student's answer sheet straight after their cover page in a class pack.

Limits to keep in mind

Your file and your privacy

The PDF is processed on our server and deleted as soon as the reorganized file is sent back to you. We don't store or share it. The pages themselves are unchanged apart from their position, and no watermark or branding is added.

Frequently asked questions

Is Organize PDF free to use?

Yes. You can use it free of charge without signing up. The result has no watermark.

Can I rearrange PDF pages on my phone?

Yes. It works in the browser on Android phones and iPhones, so you don't need an app. Tap "Select files", choose your PDF, type the new order or choose "Reverse all pages", and download the result.

What happens to pages I don't type in the custom order?

They're left out of the new PDF. Only the pages in your list end up in the result, so include every page you want to keep. Ranges like 4-20 make this quicker in long files.

Can I duplicate a page?

Yes. Type the page number more than once. For example, 1, 2, 3, 1 gives a four-page PDF that ends with a copy of page 1.

How do I reverse the page order of a PDF?

Choose "Reverse all pages" under "Order". The last page becomes the first and the first becomes the last, with every page in between flipped too.

Can I reorder pages across two different PDFs?

Merge the two PDFs into one file first, then upload the merged file here and type the order you want.
