Word to PDF

Save Word documents (DOC, DOCX) as PDF.

When a job portal, school or client asks for a PDF and all you have is a Word document, this Word to PDF converter does the job in a few taps. Upload a DOCX or DOC file, and you get back a PDF that keeps your layout, so it looks the same on the reader's screen as it did on yours. It's free and works in any browser.

Files you can convert

The tool accepts more than just Word's own formats:

File type Usually made in
DOCX Microsoft Word (current versions), Google Docs downloads
DOC Older versions of Microsoft Word
ODT LibreOffice Writer, OpenOffice
RTF WordPad and many other editors
TXT Notepad, TextEdit, any plain text editor

You can mix them in one upload. Up to 30 files at a time are fine, as long as the total stays within 100 MB.

How to turn a Word document into a PDF

  1. Tap "Select files" and choose your document, or drag it into the box on a computer.
  2. Add any other documents you want converted.
  3. Start the conversion.
  4. Download your PDF. If you converted several documents, they arrive as one ZIP with a PDF for each.

There are no settings. Each document becomes one PDF with the same pages it had in Word.

Why send a PDF instead of the Word file

A Word document can look different on someone else's computer. Their version of Word, their fonts and even their printer settings can shift line breaks, push a heading onto the next page, or make your carefully lined-up CV look messy. A PDF holds the layout in place, so what you send is what they see.

A PDF is also harder to change by accident. When you send a contract, an invoice or a signed letter as a PDF, the other person reads it as it is instead of editing it in their copy.

And almost every device can open a PDF without needing Microsoft Word, which matters when you don't know what the person on the other end uses.

Where people use it

Job seekers convert DOCX to PDF before uploading a CV or cover letter, since many application forms ask for PDF specifically. Students do the same with essays and assignments when a school's submission system wants PDFs only.

Small businesses turn quotes, invoices and receipts written in Word into PDFs before emailing them to customers. Teachers convert worksheets so they can share them in a class group or print them without layout surprises.

If you write in Google Docs, download the file as DOCX and convert it here, or use Google Docs' own PDF download if you prefer.

About fonts

The converter keeps your layout, including margins, spacing, headings and page breaks. The one area to watch is fonts. If your document uses a common font, it should look the way you designed it. If you used an unusual or decorative font, the converter may replace it with a similar one.

Plain text files are a special case. A TXT file has no formatting of its own, so its PDF will be simple text on plain pages. That works well for notes or lists, but if you want headings or styling, set them up in a word processor first and convert that file instead.

For documents where the exact look matters, such as a designed CV or a certificate, stick with widely used fonts, or open the PDF and check it before you send it.

After converting

Once you have your PDF, a few other tools can help:

Use it on any device

Everything runs in your web browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook, Android or iPhone. Nothing to install. This is handy on a phone: if you've written a document in a mobile Word app or received one on WhatsApp, you can convert it to PDF right there before forwarding it.

Privacy

Your documents are uploaded to our server, converted, and deleted as soon as the PDF is sent back to you. We don't keep copies or share them with anyone. The PDF you download carries no watermark or branding from us.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Word to PDF converter free?

Yes. There's no charge, no sign-up and no watermark on your PDF.

Will my PDF look exactly like my Word document?

The layout is kept: margins, spacing, headings and page breaks stay as they were. The main exception is fonts. Uncommon fonts may be swapped for similar ones, so check documents that use special fonts before sending them.

Can I convert DOC files from old versions of Word?

Yes. DOC, DOCX, ODT, RTF and TXT files are all accepted, so older Word files and documents from other editors work too.

How do I convert Word to PDF on my phone?

Open this page in your phone's browser, tap "Select files" and pick the document from your files or downloads. When it's ready, the PDF downloads to your phone and you can share it from there.

Can I convert many documents at once?

Yes, up to 30 files in one upload, with a 100 MB total limit. The PDFs come back together in a ZIP.

Are my documents safe?

Files are deleted from our server as soon as your PDF is sent back. Nothing is stored or shared.
